Summary of Article
Organizational culture plays a significant role in the development and growth of a firm and may substantially affect corporate performance. As a result, there are many components which may reflect the essence of the company’s culture and one element is the extent to which staff is granted the opportunity to participate in the direction of the firm. The article explores this component through investigating the link between organizational productivity (OP) and employee involvement (EI), the former being a form of corporate performance. Therefore, the possible moderating result of organizational commitment (OC) may also be considered. Moreover, the four staff involvement components (rewards, knowledge or skill, power, and information) can be examined, and propositions can be offered concerning the influence of such elements on firm productivity. Hence, the interaction between organizational commitment and the outlined components affects organizational productivity.
Domain and Boundaries
It is correct that the staff involvement has been a significant aspect of organizational life and achieving organizational efficiency since it is the primary focus. I believe that human resource practices constitute to a high-performance work system. It is important to understand that the HR practices provide an insight on what matter to the firm and the culture they support.
I agree with the authors that employee engagement involves four elements such as power, information, skill or knowledge, and rewards. With power, the staff will have the sufficient authority to make work-related decisions (Kramar, 2012). I emphasize that the timely access to information is paramount for the staff to help them to perform their duties efficiently. Providing development and training to the employees will ensure they offer efficient services. Lastly, I agree with the authors that providing extrinsic or intrinsic incentives will motivate the staff to work harder and better.
