Blended Learning – The Way to go to Achieve Learning Objectives

An introduction of the topic/issue that you have selected and researched, with a CLEAR STATEMENT OF YOUR POSITION/PERSPECTIVE/THESIS. The Introduction lets your readers know what the essay is about. The essay’s topic does not exist in a vacuum, however; part of letting readers know what your essay is about means establishing the essay’s context, the frame within which you will approach your topic.  Define some key terms/Orient readers – providing information and explanations wherever necessary for your readers’ understanding. Orienting is important throughout your essay, but it is crucial in the beginning. Justification of the importance of the issue/topic to the educational enterprise. Critical examination of the assumptions underlying your thesis/perspective on the issue/topic (This should be done throughout the essay but may also have some aspects covered in the introduction or beginning of the essay). Must be a problem or educational issue. Can it be successfully implemented in the secondary school system given complexities of resources, time and culture. Will the benefits seen at other institutions be transferred effectively in schools?

Blended learning is the use of different models that include online learning (web-based environments), customized learning (tracking students learning and boosting motivation), personalized learning (tailor-made for students’ needs) and competency learning (demonstration, application and creation supporting acquired knowledge). Blended learning has shifted the horizons from traditional education to practical learning, thereby leading to a more efficient operating and learning efficiencies. Blended learning should be introduced in all secondary schools because of its convenience, effectiveness, motivation and pedagogical strategies.

Most of the conventional methods that are used include tutorials, videos, games and voice-over-text activities. These are some common platforms for engaging students to become more participative in studies. Schober and Keller (2012) have conducted a study that shows a successful implementation of blended education for primary and secondary level students. Also, the study also showed the enhanced level of students’ motivation during the semester. 

Blended learning also targets developing deeper learning by allowing them to spend some time practicing new exercises online. A teacher can easily dedicate enough of his/her class time on developing problem-solving and critical thinking, which allows students to learn more within a small amount of time….
