Air pollution is defined as the chemical, biological and physical contamination of air due to the release of harmful gases, smoke and dust. One of the profound effects of air pollution is smog, which is defined as the amalgamation of gaseous pollutants in the atmosphere that react with heat and sunlight to form precursors such as nitrogen oxides, sulphur dioxides and volatile compounds. The main causative factor is fuel burning and pollutants from diesel engines, gasoline and industrial plants. Other causative factors of smog include high temperatures, winds, heavy traffic and sunshine.
