Nursing is a highly technical platform with procedures, rules, and precise policies. There is a wide scope of practice for nurses, allowing them to balance between their personal ideas and set rules (Cherry & Jacob, 2016; Winland-Brown, Henry & Perez, 2013). In the course of the practices, nurses often disagree and develop conflicts with other nurses, doctors, or medical tools. Conflict resolution presents an avenue through which such encounters can be handled objectively. The win-win approach is one of the tools that can be used to solve conflicts with the intent to ensure growth and development (Lipscomb, 2016; Garber, Gross, & Slonim, 2010). In such cases, the parties involved are allowed to negotiate and collaborate to find a position that benefits their interests.

            Two nurses are working in a shared environment. One of the nurses, Mercy, complains that the other nurse, Jane, is always angry and unhappy. Her attitude and general well-being at work affects their performance as a team. They have received bad reviews over the recent months over their conduct and attitude towards patients. Mercy is concerned and convinced that Jane’s attitude is affecting her work ethics and general career performance. Therefore, there is a conflict between Mercy and Jane which needs to be resolved in order to sustain good performance at work.

            A win-win approach demands an extensive scope of collaboration and compromise. The parties involved need to access the situation as a shared weakness affecting the systems (Papke, 2016). In solving the conflict, the first step is to agree that a win-win solution is possible. Both Jane and Mercy need to perceive the possibility of a shared satisfaction.

            After the approval of the course of resolution, the two parties are engaged in a discussion to discuss the interests of each party in the outcome. In this case, every party has an opportunity to present their case and clarify their needs. The foundation of conflict resolution is the clarity of the conflict. Mercy would argue that Jane’s behavior affects her performance as a single unit and their collective results. Jane will present a case to justify her attitude. During the discussion, a number of possibilities will be laid concerning the resolution of the conflict. In the preliminary stages of the conflict resolution process, the deal breakers are also analyzed for both parties. It involves a list of outcomes that do not favor the personal predispositions of the either Jane or Mercy. For instance, Mercy is not ready to be relocated to another departmental setting. Equally, Jane does not approve any development towards the restructuring of her duties.             The succeeding step is to explore creative solutions to the conflict. Mercy can suggest the involvement of a third party in their team to help create a better working environment. Conversely, Jane can opt for the introduction of seminars and programs to empower and encourage employees. The assortment of ideas at this stage reflects the capacity to reach an informed and inclusive solution. For instance, if both teams agree with the introduction of a new member, they can both get access to a different energy from the third party. Jane can develop a good relationship with the new nurse and help solve her personal challenges. Similarly, Mercy will be able to work together with the new nurse for overall development…
