Topic and Problem

Topic. Improved technology has presented enormous opportunities that have revolutionized various aspects of human life. The education sector has gone through significant changes due to the implementation of innovative approaches in teaching and learning. The new techniques utilized in the classroom require learners to be more engaged with the learning process. Sen and Agir (2014) state that academic achievement is directly proportional to the quality of the teaching and learning materials offered to the student. Policymakers and educators advocate for the use of technological solutions with the hope that they will be an appropriate classroom aid to boost performance of both teachers and students. Recently, there has been an adoption of a variety of technologies that are designed to promote active participation in schooling by teachers and students. Information and communication innovations are a major globalizing phenomenon that has had a significant impact on students (Digregorio, 2010). The education sector needs to keep up with these changes to motivate and engage students, as well as to prepare them for a future where technology is a key factor in the workplace. One of the technologies that have been widely adopted in the classroom, especially in developed countries like the USA and Britain is the interactive smart board. The advanced boards allow the teachers and learners to interact with the content projected from a computer onto a whiteboard surface. The smart boards have the capacity to carry performs tasks carried out by a computer. The interaction involves the use of fingers and pens that are used to point at things, draw, mark, and highlight any computer-based output that can be supported. Additionally, it ensures effective management of learning activities and has provisions that allow recording lessons, which can be retrieved for future consultation. The use of this technology raises the question of what effects it has on the students’ achievement.

Despite this, most education officials it is difficult to teach children of the modern generation compared to the past when technology was rare in schools.
