Introduction

The 21st century has presented a new perspective on the organizational life. The changing business environment, dynamic markets, increased use of technology, changing demographics, and unpredictable customer behavior have influenced how businesses and organizations are run. Profitability and sustainability have become an imperative factor on how organizations are managed, including strategizing on success, labor, partnerships, and other managerial roles. In the effort to engage in strategic and reliable approaches that facilitate change in the industry, markets, labor availability, technological advancement, and other influences from the environment entails structuring and re-structuring to avoid challenges from the complexities (De Meyer, Loch, & Pich, 2002). In this light, the organizations have to strategize and establish the most effective and adaptive structures that can facilitate the effective use of resources and in meeting the organizational goals. Leadership in the organizational setting is a key element of success. Leaders have the imperative role of fostering strategies, resolving conflicts, and keeping the workforce motivated to keep the organization running smoothly.

The position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO), is an imperative position in the leadership of a company. The CEO has the professional and moral obligation to engage in leadership and ensure strategies implemented are adjusted to the requirements of the company to meet its objectives. According to Herrmann and Nadkarni (2014) the CEO engages in leadership and management responsibilities that facilitate an environment that will sustain employee productivity and improve the company’s performance. With effective management of the workforce, the CEO can steer the organization to meet efficiency in production, satisfy customers’ needs and wants as well as meet the expectations of the stakeholders through effective planning (Schepker, Nyberg, Ulrich, & Wright, 2017). These insights show that the CEO has to engage strategically and offer a judicious balance in the internal and external aspects of the organization. Additionally, identify and support the company and its stakeholders while at the same time meet the expectations of the consumers and the immediate communities. These factors are critical to the operational effectiveness and sustainability of the organization. The paper highlights the organizational tools that the CEO can employ for effective management of uncertainty, change, conflict, and other various challenges that emerge in the company setting.
