When a person makes an unethical or bad decision at the workplace, people often ask why. Answering this question is crucial as it assists people to engage in behaviors that make sense to prevent similar mistakes from happening in the future. Organizations operate under certain protocols and guidelines that structure the organization. However, some situations that require ethical decision-making using the existing standards to solve the dilemma may not be so helpful. Therefore, unethical behavior results due to a violation of the codes of conduct provided by the organization (Olden, 2015). Nevertheless, the team should prevent unethical decision-making processes as they affect the sustainability and profitability of the corporation. It needs to put in place strict governance that minimizes bad decisions.

The other stressor is the personal criteria, and moral values can influence the way one makes organizational decisions. Also, friends and family can contribute insight and support that can affect sound decision making. Regarding the influential environmental factors, the company culture or environment plays a significant role in controlling and pressuring workers to compromise the ethical values to attain the organizational goals. The management philosophy of the company can affect decision-making process by emphasizing ethics during business operations. Another environmental factor is intense competition in industry, which forces workers to concentrate on the bottom line rather than business ethics. Such competitive environment also makes the employee performance to be based on end-results and not considering the ethical means used to achieve the results (Olden, 2015).

Key emotional intelligence deficit influential to the unethical behavior Emotional intelligence helps one to harness the emotional power and use it to improve the thought processes as well as how a person makes a decision. Emotional intelligence is believed in bringing organizational success and preventing unethical behavior (Selart & Johansen, 2011). However, some factors affect emotional intelligence; thus leading to unethical behavior and one is a lack of self-regulation caused by negative impulses or disruptive emotions. Lack of self-control affects the productivity of a person as one fails to necessitate thinking before acting of making any judgment on another person.
