Candidates will be given anopportunity to choose different options for their final project. For the finalproject candidates will be asked to observe in a school, interview parents,teachers and/or administrators, shadow a teacher and possibly observe in an IEPmeeting.  . Atthe last class candidates will be asked to give a presentation regarding theirmenu board. 

MENU BOARD ACTIVITIES: Completethe following 4 activities.  Be sure tochoose the correct side: whether in or out of a school. You will give apresentation to the class for your final project. It is up to you on how topresent the final project. It can be a written paper (you would give anoverview of your written paper)

· Describe the school:population it serves, size, testing scores, languages spoken, housing,socio-economic status.

· Does it have a Specialeducation program/component?

2. Interview of an administrator, general educator OR special educator.These are just leading questions and should be followed up with any othersthat you have.

· How are Special Education decisions handled in your building?(Staffing, management of IEP’s, etc.)

· Does your school implement full inclusion? Are some studentsincluded for certain subjects only, if so why?

· How are behaviors managed within your building, of students withan IEP/504?

· Do you attend the IEP meetings for students within yourbuilding?

· If there were one thing that you could change about SpecialEducation what would it be?

. After the interview, what areyour thoughts on Special Education?

· Did these interviews change how you feel about SpecialEducation?

· Did you learn anything new or interesting as a result of thisinterview?

3.  Service Delivery:

· What service delivery model have you seen so far (self containedclassroom, inclusive classroom (co-taught, collaborative, consult), pull-out,separate school)?

· In the inclusive classroom, how do the cooperating teachers worktogether?( What other professionals have you seen working with students(general educators, speech/language pathologists, school psychologists,therapists, etc.)? How do these professionals help serve students withdisabilities?

· Which ISLLC standard applies the most? Justify your answer.

· * After observing in the classrooms and observing interactionswith staff and students, is there anything that you would change?  What are your thoughts about SpecialEducation and how it may or may not affect the child?

3.  Service Delivery:

· Describe the different service delivery models that areavailable in a school setting: Inclusion, Self-contained and resourceclassrooms.

· Describe how other professionals work with students in theclassroom such as (general educators, speech/language pathologists, schoolpsychologists, therapists, etc.)? How do these professionals help servestudents with disabilities?

4. Observe an IEP meeting:

· Who was present at the meeting? What were their roles?

· What was the tone of the meeting (cooperative, hostile, sharing,etc.)?  What was accomplished at themeeting (review of new IEP, review of assessment results, etc.)

· Who was in charge of the meeting? Who wrote the IEP? How longdid the meeting last?

· Was the student invited? Why or why not? How old is the student?

· Was transition discussed (adult services, job training,community participation)?

· What domains (areas of instruction) were parts of the IEP? Wasany data on the student’s performance presented or discussed?

· Which ISLLC standard applies the most? Justify your answer.

After observing an IEP meetingwhat are your thoughts on the process and how it helps the student. Was thereanything that surprised you? Were there any questions you as a result of themeeting?

IEP meetings:

· Research IEP meetings andanswer the following questions in regards to them:

· Who should be present atthe meeting and why?

· What happens at ameeting? What is reviewed, discussed, examined?

· Research and watch avideo of an IEP meeting and discuss what you see. Make sure to mention thevideo that your reviewed.
