  • That the point am going to write about: Traditionally corporations relied upon leadership by the Board and senior Executives, however, corporations that are successful in the future will depend upon ‘self-leadership’ by each their staff. Discuss.
  • Example: technology will change leadership in future. Would we need leaders to lead us.
  • We are more educated we don’t need leaders ,better educated workforce. We don’t need people to tell us what to do because we are more socially aware and know very well about our jobs. We are independent.

Businesses are any ventures by individuals or groups that are focused on gaining profits. Leaders are individuals that advocate for the organizational objectives by motivating and directing the followers in ways that are appropriate to achieve performance and profitability. Leadership has undergone changes over time from authoritative individuals to holistic persons who focus on both strategic planning and execution, and human-related aspects. Dynamic markets and unpredictable consumer behaviors characterize the modern-day business environment. This aspect can be attributed to the changing economic, political, and social structures among the people. Fundamentally, key contributors to the changes in business and leadership are increased human intelligence and globalization. Better means of acquiring knowledge and the availability of information has enhanced the development of technology and new business structures. The changes experienced in commerce have instigated the development of new leadership models.

 Petrie (2014) states that due to the complexity, volatility, and unpredictability of enterprises, leadership requires adaptive thinking skills. Although in the contemporary world, leadership development methods have not changed much, the majority of the manager emerges from on-the-job experience. Self-development techniques that include training, coaching, and mentoring are still significant approaches in use today. The aspect of globalization has raised challenges in leading organizations with an increased demand for adaptive competencies. The human resource is also dealing with handling diverse employees due to the increased empowerment of many cultures to seek employment. The trend shows that companies are shifting from the traditional reliance on boards and executives. Suggestively, the success of the future corporations will be dependent on self-leadership among the employees.

In the modern-day, management functions are important aspects to the success of an organization (Hernez-Broome & Hughes, 2014). Apparently, leadership is not solely defined by what the individual does; rather it includes their involvement in the formation of relations with internal and external stakeholders. The leader is not only a product of individual professional competence but also a person with capabilities to establish social relations that contribute to the organizational goal. Leadership in the contemporary businesses seeks to establish ways the venture can evolve (Mumford, Watts, & Part, 2015)…..
