K-pop is a mixture of the East and West music. The K-pop artists are mostly Korean and their preferred dance style, coupled with their complex combination of winks and hand movements, have an Asian zest (Seabrook 2012). Despite the fact that K-pop music has only recently reached the global market, its popularity is undeniable (Matsumoto 2017). Similarly, the K-pop music is equally popular globally. For example, ‘Gangham Style’ was the most watched video on YouTube for five years, with close to three billion views (Jones 2017). Despite, the cultural and language barriers, the music has managed to infiltrate the global market successfully.

The political realignment of Korea and the withdrawal of strict restrictions led to the emergence of young Koreans, who wanted to experiment the incorporation of Western styles in their traditional dancing styles. Some of the factors that resulted in the success of K-pop are as follows.
