In discussing domestic violence, it is important to note that most men in this country aren’t abusive. The question emerges, however, of the role that non-violent men have in preventing violence against women.
Rus Erin Funk, author of Stopping Rape: A Challenge for Men, writes “I want to see men come together to discuss these issues, and to plan how to dismantle this system of domination and control that keeps men in a position as victimizer or threat. That is our, men’s work…We have the ability to create a world where all women, children and men are safe from the threat of men’s violence.” (Funk, 1993, p. 129)

Website: Men stopping violence
The fight against gender violence has taken a new lead with organizations establishing programs to help halt the violence. The position of men in gender violence is reiterated, and men are presented as the people with the ability to institute changes and ensure the safety of women and children. Men stopping violence is an independent program built on well-thought objectives and visions. It incorporates comprehensive programs that all seek to engage men in the fight against violence actively. It is believed that all forms of oppression against women and children are interconnected and can be solved through innovative training, well-developed programs, and advocacy.
What role do non-violent men play in helping to prevent domestic violence?
The issue of gender-based violence should not be treated as a women’s issue by the non-violent men in the society (York 11). Women deserve to be supported in their fight against violence and oppression. Non-violent men play a significant role in establishing a gap between a violent society and a safe gender-sensitive society. Women under oppression often lack the ability to fight against the violent men. The society imprisons them, and a gender insensitive society always meets their efforts to free themselves with no regard for women. Non-violent men should take the lead to help abused women fight against their oppressors. Through advocacy, an abused woman can land the help of a good man who is robust and willing to establish a change in the society…
